Our Curriculum has been designed to enable pupils to succeed through cooperative and collaborative learning principles that ensure all pupils develop their skills in being proactive, resilient and independent as learners.  Underpinning our currculum are reading and vocabulary, key tools in all aspects of learning and success.

We encourage pupils to make connections and links in their learning within and beyond the curriculum to foster a lifelong love of learning.

Please see the links on this page for our newsletters this term, our curriculum overviews and knowledge organisers and takeaway homework menus.

We teach reading and writing daily through the Success for All (SFA) programme, a comprehensive, evidence based approach – please see our Learning and Curriculum section for more details of this programme.  In Year 6, during the spring and summer term pupils follow a bespoke literacy programme which supports their reading, writing preparation for SATS assessments and transition to KS3.

SPELLING, PUNCTUATION AND GRAMMAR - This is taught daily throughout Key Stage 2 through the SFA programme and across the curriculum to assist pupils in their reading and writing skills.

READING – We teach reading daily in SFA sessions.  We also read a range of books and other sources across the curriculum to develop our vocabulary and comprehension.  For home readers, we follow the Accelerated Reader programme. All children are expected to read at least 3 times a week at home and once a book is finished all pupils take a short Accelerated Reader quiz which checks their understanding of the text they have read.

WRITING – We teach writing daily in our SFA sessions and within our wider currculum, encouraging children to develop their grammar and vocabulary skills to suit the audience and purpose.

Maths Mastery is a specific programme followed to teach the basic skills of maths through a mastery approach which ensures pupils have a deep understanding of the key concepts needed within Key Stage 2. Through using Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract methods our pupils continue to develop and build upon the basic skills needed in arithmetic and reasoning.

We teach our foundation subjects; Science, Geography, History, Computing, Languages, Art and Design & Technology, using a blocked, modular approach which encourages deep learning, spaced practice and knowledge retrieval. Please see our year group curriculum overviews and Knowledge Organisers for more information.

Other curriculum subjects; Physical Education, Religious Education, Personal Social, Health and Emotional (PSHE) and Music are taught weekly.

If you would like to find out more about our curriculum please look at our learning and curriculum section or speak to a member of staff who will be happy to help.
